Solar Panel Installation

Monday 28th March 2011 by annie

Have you ever thought about having solar panels fitted to your house for a more efficient way of heating up your hot water? Whether the answer to that question is yes or no, you should have a read of our latest solar panel installation to find out the benefits you could enjoy.

At Marble Plumbing we endeavor to tell all our customers about different types of renewable energies and ways in which they can benefit. A customer recently inquired about a new heating system and the possibility of having solar panels. Solar panels lose efficiency quickly if they are not in the sun, so we had to make sure that we placed them where they were going to get the most exposure as possible to the sun. Luckily the roof wasn’t obstructed by any telegraph poles or tress so it would get quite a lot of sun throughout the day. Their roof was a good fit for the solar panels as it wasn’t obstructed by any telegraph poles or trees and was south facing. Here is some information on how the installation process developed.

We started off by measuring the spot where the first solar panel would be placed, and then put the clips in place on the roof. So that we could place the clips on the roof we had to remove a few roof tiles and find a suitable roof batton for the weight. Once we had found a suitable support for the bracket we fixed the bracket to it and tightened it up before moving along to measure up for the second solar panel. Once we had all the bottom clips for both panels in place we moved further up the roof to install the top two clips for the top of the panels, which had to line up exactly so that the panel fitted perfectly.

Now that the clips were in place and secure we attached the bars which the panels would be sat on and bolted them to the clips. We were now ready for the solar panels. After getting the solar panels onto the roof it was very straight forward to attach them to the bars, the panel just slides onto them. We made sure that the panels were lined up with the windows for a more aesthetic look and then finally we had to attach clips to the inside of the bars which then attached to the panel to give more stability.

If you are thinking of having solar panels on your roof, or would just like a bit more information on whether they would be suitable for your property, please get in touch with Marble Plumbing.

Combination Boiler Installation

Thursday 10th March 2011 by annie

Marble Plumbing were called to a property in Yateley, Hampshire where the builder was completing a refurbishment project on a bungalow.

As the meeting with the client developed it was clear that he wanted to try and reduce the plumbing. As the bungalow has 2 bedrooms and one bathroom, the perfect solution was to fit a combination boiler up in the loft as this would remove the floor standing boiler in the kitchen which in turn would give him more cupboard space. As we were using a combination boiler it meant we could remove the cylinder from the airing cupboard giving extra room. To keep this as an airing cupboard it was decided that we should install a small radiator just to keep the towels dry and the cupboard could still act as an airing cupboard.

Once the price was agreed and the customer was happy with the work that was going to take place, the date was set and we started the changeover. From start to finish the project took approximately 25 days to complete and was a great success.

The flow rate on the incoming mains water was already very good, so where as before the shower wasn’t very powerful, with the new pressurised hot and cold water it made a brilliant upgrade to the property. Not only did the new boiler improve the hot and cold taps pressure it also was hidden away out of sight in the loft gaining a lot more storage space in the kitchen and airing cupboard.

The paperwork was completed and both the builder and customer were very happy with the installation.

Underfloor Heating Installation

Monday 15th November 2010 by Stuart

Marble Plumbing were called to a house in Walton, where the customer didn’t want to ruin the look of her beautiful kitchen with a normal wall mounted radiator so she decided to go for underfloor heating. There are many great reasons to choose underfloor heating instead of normal radiators, why not take a look at our underfloor heating information to see if you could benefit too.

The installation took 2 days to complete from start to finish, and below are the details of the job.

The installations started by ensuring a clean screed floor, which we then insulated around the edge of the floor with cardboard which allows for expansion of the screed after it’s heated. With all solid floor installations you must make sure that it is insulated underneath to stop and heat escaping through the bottom.

We then laid the ‘egg cup’ style mats which makes laying the pipework much easier, and it also ensures that there is equal heating across the finished floor. After laying the mats, we bolted the manifold onto the wall, included is a circulating pump, heating zone valves and actuators which we use to set the litres per minute.

Now the fun part, installing the pipework requires patience as it sometimes doesn’t go where you want it to. We start at the manifold and run the pipework in zones, (the size of the installation depends on the amount of zones required) as seen on the photos, back and forth a number of times before it returns to the manifold.

Once the installation is complete we connect it to the existing heating system and start to do the correct commissioning procedures.

New Boiler Installed – Loft Conversion

Friday 30th July 2010 by Stuart

Marble Plumbing was called to a job in Kingston, the customer was going to have a loft conversion done and wanted to get rid of the loft tanks to make it into beautiful loft they have always dreamed of, but thought the tanks would spoil the image.

We had a chat for an hour or so, about the different types of heating systems available to suit her dwelling. In the end, after completing the correct flow rate and pressure tests, we both decided that a Worcester Bosch system boiler and a 210 litre unvented cylinder would be the best solution. It would give the house enough kilowatts per hour for the heating, and would be able to heat up a suitable quantity of water in an adequate time.

I then left the property most importantly, with a good relationship with the customer. She was left knowing exactly what was going to be installed and how it was going to work.

Once the estimate was complete and sent off to the customer, Marble Plumbing and Marble Construction worked together to sort out the best date for the installation, fitting around the loft conversion schedule. With the dates agreed, and the customer happy for the go ahead, Marble Plumbing started the installations.

The project took approximately 3 days to complete and the customer was extremely happy with the workmanship and the quality of the installation.

Once everything was tested and commissioned all the paperwork was filled out and the customer was shown by the installer what everything was, and how it all worked.

Marble Plumbing was also asked to complete the refurbishment of the two bathrooms in the house, and also completed the heating in the loft. Below are some images of the finished loft conversion and bathrooms.

The customer has also asked us back to complete more work on the property in the near future.
