Underfloor Heating Installation

Monday 15th November 2010 by Stuart

Marble Plumbing were called to a house in Walton, where the customer didn’t want to ruin the look of her beautiful kitchen with a normal wall mounted radiator so she decided to go for underfloor heating. There are many great reasons to choose underfloor heating instead of normal radiators, why not take a look at our underfloor heating information to see if you could benefit too.

The installation took 2 days to complete from start to finish, and below are the details of the job.

The installations started by ensuring a clean screed floor, which we then insulated around the edge of the floor with cardboard which allows for expansion of the screed after it’s heated. With all solid floor installations you must make sure that it is insulated underneath to stop and heat escaping through the bottom.

We then laid the ‘egg cup’ style mats which makes laying the pipework much easier, and it also ensures that there is equal heating across the finished floor. After laying the mats, we bolted the manifold onto the wall, included is a circulating pump, heating zone valves and actuators which we use to set the litres per minute.

Now the fun part, installing the pipework requires patience as it sometimes doesn’t go where you want it to. We start at the manifold and run the pipework in zones, (the size of the installation depends on the amount of zones required) as seen on the photos, back and forth a number of times before it returns to the manifold.

Once the installation is complete we connect it to the existing heating system and start to do the correct commissioning procedures.
